Qiuwu is sentenced to death for stealing cars. The lead judge Tian had just lost his daughter in a tragic accident involving a stolen car. A rich businessman Lee asks for kidney donation upon Qiuwu's death. But the change in the law creates an opportunity to avoid the execution.

Jie Liu
After studying cinematography at the Beijing Film Academy, Liu worked as a cinematographer on Beijing Bicycle (2001), which premiered at Berlin Film Festival and was subsequently invited to many other international film festivals including Karlovy Vary, Helsinki, and Toronto. He made his directorial debut with Courthouse On The Horseback (2006) and subsequently directed Judge (2009). Both films were screened at Venice Film Festival.
