On the day of the grandmother’s funeral, Kentaro hears for the first time about his paternal grandfather Kyuzo. Kyuzo was a zero fighter who died in World War II. As Kentaro begins to discover more facts about his grandfather, he faces a shocking truth that he never knew.

Yamazaki made his directorial debut with Juvenile (2000) and is known for sophisticated visuals utilizing computer graphics and visual effects. He won the Best Director and Best Screenplay prizes at the Japanese Academy Awards for Always: Sunset on Third Street (2005), which was made into a series. He also directed Space Battleship Yamato (2010) and Friends: Naki on Monster Island (2011), the first Japanese 3D animation feature film. He served as Director, Visual Effects Supervisor, and Screenwriter for The Eternal Zero (co-written with Tamio Hayashi).
