Opening film: the 64th Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix winner "Once Upon a Time In Anatolia" directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan (SKIP CITY IDCF 2007 winner with "Climates)

SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL (launched in 2004) has been focusing in digital cinema from the beginning and in discovering and supporting talented filmmakers.
「SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL 2011」(Sponsored by: Saitama Prefecture, Kawaguchi City, SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL committee, and others) will get underway on October 8 (Sat) as the 8th edition of the Festival.
Opening film of SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL 2011: "Once Upon a Time in Anatolia"
This year "Once Upon a Time in Anatolia" will be as a film of <Current D-Cinema 2011>. Its director Nuri Bilge Ceylan received Grand Prize at SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL in 2007 and won Grand Prix at this year's Cannes International Film Festival. He is now considered as a master of Turkish cinema.
Ceylan wrote, directed, and starred in, portrays the psychology of a couple on the verge of breakdown sensitvely in "Climates (winner of SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL 2007)". Interweaving beautiful landscapes in different seasons, the film was praised for its evocative depiction of adult relationships. Though none of his films have been theatrically distributed in Japan.

Ceylan has started digital filmmaking from his early career. This film was shot in F35 (Sony digital video camera). We hope you would enjoy the projection in high-quality by 4K digital projector with big screens.

Story: In the Anatolian steppes, there is an onging murder investigation. The police officers and suspects roam the plain in search of a dead body... Thrilling drama about a doctor and a prosecutor who investigate the truth of a murder case.
Director: Nuri Bilge Ceylan Born 1959 in Istanbul, Nuri Bilge Ceylan studied filmmaking and photography at Mimar Sinan University. His short film "Cocoon", the first Turkish short to be selected for competition, was screened at Cannes in 1995. Three feature films, also been described as a provincial trilogy, followed that could be considered as sequels to "Cocoon"; "The Small Town, Clouds of May", and "Distant", a winner of Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003. His next film Climates also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. With "Three Monkeys", Ceylan won the Best Director at the 61st Cannes Film Festival. In 2009, he returned to Cannes as a member of the competition jury. |

"I hope this film can be an opportunity for everyone to reawaken the desire for peace, the need for dialogue and understanding..." was the message from Director Giorgio Diritti, who won Grand Prize of SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL. "The Man Who Will Come" means a person in the future, but also a prayer of filmmakers who wish a peaceful world, nevertheless, war is still going on in the world. "The Man Who Will Come" has received a numerous number of awards including SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL Grand Prize, and has been positioned as one of the most important Italian films of 2010. Released on October 22, Iwanami Hall (Tokyo) and Theatre Umeda (Osaka), followed by other cities.
The Man Who Will Come
Director: Giorgio Diritti (2009/Italy/118min/Distributor:alcine terran)
Story: Martina is an eight-year-old child living on the slopes of Monte Sole. She has stopped talking since her brother died years earlier. In winter of 1943, her mother becomes pregnant again and Martina anticipates the birth of a new baby. In the meantime, Nazis invade Italy and the partisans put up resistance as the shadow of war descends upon the village. The film depicts the massacre happened in a small village of Bolognese, Italy at WWII. Received Jury Prize and Audience Award at 2009 Rome International Film Festival.
Many filmmakers including Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Giorgio Diritti are shined in the world after grabbing the spotlight at SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL. Antipation and attention to our festival are getting bigger and bigger, and we have received a number of submissions from 81 countries this year. Selected 12 feature films and 12 shorts will be screened at the Festival. Who's the next star?
