Camera Crayon – Exciting Films Produced by Children! –

In this year’s Camera Crayon, we present Mission Incredible and The Private Detective Mirai produced by Kawaguchi Kids Movie Club and the best TV shows produced in the Audio Visual Learning Program. Kawaguchi Kids Movie Club produced these films during the heatwave last summer and they were awarded prizes at the 3rd My Navi Japan Kids Film Contest this year. In the Audio Visual Learning Program, we present the very best of TV commercials and news broadcasts produced by elementary school students, followed by a Q&A session by the program participants. Enjoy with the whole family!

The Audio Visual Learning Program is an academic curriculum where schoolchildren in Saitama Prefecture participate and learn how to produce audio visual works. More than 630 works were produced last year and we select the very best. Many ideas and point of views that only kids can think of.

In recent years, Saitama has been featured as the primary location in many films. To support these films, two films shot in Saitama will screen at Media Seven located on the 7th floor of Cupola, which is connected to JR Kawaguchi Station.

Born in 1974, Kakukawa has dedicated his career to promoting musicals in Japan. He directed a musical short film, which won the Best Picture in the Short Film Competition at SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL 2012 and the Grand Prix at the 2nd Jimbo-cho Film Festival. He also starred in the stage versions of “Les Misérables” and “The Shawshank Redemption”.

Shima studied philosophy at Ritsumeikan University. She won the Cultural Affairs Arts Festival Prize with her play “Ichigo jigoro to ichinichibana” in 1992. Her other plays include “Hana no hyoshitsu”, “Taiyo no kodomotachi” and “Gama.” She made her directorial debut with Mageshima Cross (2012), and Late Blooming (2018) is her fourth film. Her previous film Brother Blossom (2016) screened at this festival in 2017.
