Reading a newspaper article causes Gordie to reminisce on his childhood, many years ago. We travel back to when he was 12, and living in the rural Oregon town of Castle Rock. He and his three friends Chris, Teddy, and Vern each have their own problems at home. One day, Vern brings information about the body of a missing boy in the woods 30 km away, and the four pals set off to find it. Every little experience is an adventure of its own for these boys, who know nothing beyond their lives in this tiny town. This film adaptation of Stephen King’s novella The Body richly depicts the emotional subtleties of its young protagonists. The soundtrack of golden oldies, including the title number from Ben E. King, evokes a sense of both nostalgia and melancholy.
