Born in Hokkaido, Fukunaga is a filmmaker based in New York. And he also participated in National Board of Review, IFP and Berlinale Talents. For his feature debut film, Out of My Hand (2015), which was released in theaters in the US, he was nominated for the John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award in 2016 and received prizes at various festivals.
