Ten year-old Jarka lost her grandmother and was abandoned by her mother. She meets a stranger who leaves her with twins to take care of. With her friend whose overprotective parents shield him from the world, Jarka decides to substitute as a mother.

Born 1980 in Slovakia, Grófová graduated from the Studio of Animation Production and the Studio of Documentary Production at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. Her feature-length debut Made in Ash (2012) was premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and won numerous awards. The film was also selected as the Slovakian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Award. She has also directed documentaries for television including Blues for Single Mothers (2014).
