Job, house, money. What makes us happy? What is necessary, and what is not, for our happiness? What does a homeless man really want when he unexpectedly receives a large sum of money? The film titled Mimic, which implies a profound meaning, deals with the complexity of human society in a story with no correct answers. Yuki Okita, who appeared in many Yoshihiro Nakamura films, including Mumon: The Land of Stealth (17) and The 47 Rōnin in Debt (19), plays the leading role. Hiroki Horikawa, from Princess of Euglena (22), which screened at the 2022 festival, plays his homeless friend. This world-premiere film was written, directed, cinematographed and edited by Akihiro Takahama, who studied at New Cinema Workshop and has continued his involvement with moving images while working for a film distribution company, completing this debut film. The screening at this festival will be its world premiere.

Message

I feel overwhelmed by this wonderful opportunity given to my directorial debut. I’m grateful that there were people who were willing to help me when I decided to make a film from my own script. I hope this film will mean something to those who were involved with the film, and to the audience.
